Remind 101 is a great tool for teachers to use in the classroom for students and parents. The tool allows teachers to sign up for a free account, then create up to 10 classes or groups to communicate important messages to those who have signed up via a standard text message. Texting rates will apply for those receiving the message; for those that do not wish to receive a text message an email address can be used instead.
Once you create a class you will be given a phone number and code for the students or parents to text. You can see this in the image to the right. By using Remind101, you as a teacher do not have to give out your personal phone number or collect the personal numbers of your students or parents. As mentioned before the messages can come over email as well for those like parents who would rather communicate that way.
Remind 101 can be used to clarify assignments, remind students of due dates for projects or tests, or to let them know to check their email for a more detailed message. With the system you can set up messages to send at a scheduled time; for example,if you know the test will be Thursday, you can set a reminder Monday when you finish writing the test to send at 3:30 on Wednesday afternoon. I also use the tool with my speech and drama team members to let them know about practices and upcoming competitions.
